Oakwood occupies about 5 acres of grass and woodland between Brentwood and Romford. The lawn is a pleasant place for chatting and sunbathing while the wood protects it from the wind and provides welcome relief from the sun in hot weather. The club has a swimming pool, children’s playground and areas for miniten (a sort of short tennis), petanque (French bowls), croquet and other games. Indoors are a dart board, a pool table, table tennis and a kitchen. In winter we run a social programme of quizzes, pub nights, music sessions and gourmet evenings. Members have their own private nature reserve, where they can listen to the woodland birdsong, watch our newly-arrived nuthatches, admire our purple hairstreak butterflies, search for spectacular black arches moths or just relax over our hard-working Adrena mining bees with their unwanted Nomad bee companions.

Naturism gives the lie to people who perceive the hairless human body as a divine misjudgement. Nakedness, on a warm day, is comfortable, good for vitamin D and the immune system, ideal for exertion, exposes a readily-cleaned outer surface and is remarkably easy to get used to.

Our membership comes mainly from South Essex and East London. No one will be asked to undress unless they use the pool, although, if the weather is warm, guests should expect other people to do so. Families and individuals who wish to visit the club should call on 07960-109041 or email bobatoakwood@yahoo.co.uk
